Your DeviantArt Sucks - Episode 1

For the few people who haven't been driven away by the overly-opinionated drama-loving ass-tools that have seemingly taken over Xanga, you might remember me from such episodes as BadBoyDoomDaddy, the Evil Xanga Klique, and Miss Xangamerica. Today, I am proud to announce my return to the scene with my new Xanga series "Your DeviantArt Sucks."

DeviantArt, one more place on the internet that the furries have claimed for themselves, leaving only a handful of websites for those of us who don't get aroused at the thought of Teddy Ruxpin. Forced to share this site in order to network with the few real artists using this website, many times we post our best pieces, only to have them forced off the front page by terrible artwork. It wouldn't be so bad if it was pushed off by good, or even halfway decent artwork, but that's never the case. Due to my love for laughs at the expense of others, in this series, we will be critiquing a select few of these terrible artworks.

First up, we have Riflebullet by PerryTheHedgehog

Artist's comments : a drawing of shadows riflebullet with more detail. thats it.

More detail indeed, Perry. Judging by his name and his plethora of Sonic-themed MSpaint works, I'm going to assume "shadow" is in reference to one of Sega's atrocities. I hope you're happy, Sega, with this subculture of social rejects your game series has created. But enough about the comments, lets get to the artwork, shall we?

I like his choice in background color. It blends perfectly with the Nyquil I vomited onto my monitor after seeing this terrible piece bump my most recent drawing off the front page. Catagorized as a "digital painting," Perry's use of the MS Paint line tool is unmatched. And the details? Oh, the details. To the phillips head screws in the handle to the checkmark shaped hammer, this gun has it all. A job well done, Perry, for ruining my day.

I tried, but I can't. I can only see one of them, and that one just looks like a squiggly mess. Besides, my brain can't take its focus off of trying to figure out how her spine works with her neck being off center like that. One would only assume the pain would be unbearable. Unlike Perry's Nyquil-and-bile green background, you chose notebook paper as your background. Nothing screams "Rebel stuck in Freshman Composition" like a college-ruled loose leaf. You clearly take your art seriously.

Oh School, why must you waste my time.

I've reached the point where I no longer gain anything from going to class. That is, my school has taught me everything they can, but that won't stop them from milking more money out of me. I have Advanced Prototyping, which is where I build a game with a team of people, and the game is alright, it's nothing special, and not at all my style, but still, it's alright. Here's a demo.

Also, I have Advanced Animation, which would be benificial if I wanted to be an animator, but I don't. Our final project in that class is to animate a 2 minute story, but I convinced the instructor to let me do the cinematics for our game in prototyping, because honestly, if my animations for any of my stories looked anything less than the quality of Square-Enix, then I would not be satisfied.

Lastly, I have Career Development, which is a joke class that costs way more than it should. A complete list of assignments for the entire course are as follows: A resume, a cover letter, a reference sheet, and a mock interview. I had 3 out of 4 done before I even walked in the classroom.

So, I have been neglecting to do some of the work required by my classes to instead work on stuff that will actually get me a job. If you play the game demo there, you'll see that nothing is graphically impressive about that game, and nothing in that game that I made or worked on can I use in a portfolio, aside from the game itself. Right now, I'm reworking my model of Ellie,

And as soon as I get that done (it's taking longer than it should, due to the school forgetting to reactivate our 3d.sk account), I'm going to actually work on an environment again. It's been a while.

Never Put Me in Charge

The other day we had a group exercise in my career development class. The exercise was this: It was the nuclear apocalypse, and we had a fallout shelter. Besides our group, we had to pick 6 out of 10 people to allow to stay in our shelter for 6 months, the rest had to die. The teacher organized our groups based on our major, so the Game Art students got grouped with me (there were only 3 other ones), the rest of the class was pretty much fashion, fashion marketing, and interior design (read airheads with rich parents (actually some interior design students are cool)). Here's the list of people and the information:

1. Bookkeeper; 31 years old
2. His wife; six months pregnant
3. Black militant; 2nd year college student
4. Famous historian-author; 42 years old
5. Hollywood star, young, bright
6. Former prostitute; "retired" for 4 years
7. Rabbi; 44 years old
8. Olympic athlete; all sports
9. Architect; homosexual
10. Police Officer with gun (they cannot be separated)

Now, the point of this exercise was to simulate how employers form biases on titles and hire on very limited information. All the other groups made morally sound decisions that, in my opinion, were dumb, like, saving the pregnant lady, and killing the cop because he had a weapon. We had to select a group member to go up and explain our group's decisions, and my explaination went a little like this:

"First off, we killed the pregnant lady, because a baby would just be another person, and a crying baby in a cramped fallout shelter with no diapers? No. So obviously we had to also kill the bookkeeper, because all he'd do is bitch about how we killed his wife and unborn kid. Next, we killed the Rabbi, because I'm pretty sure our food supply isn't kosher. Also, we killed the prostitute, because I'm sure there's a reason she's retired.

We didn't kill the athlete because.. well, anyone that competes in ALL of the Olympic sports is a god damn legend! We kept the Architect, because he's probably gonna build pillow forts or something, and that'll keep us entertained. We kept the police officer, because his gun is apparently infused into his hand, so it's pretty obvious that he's Robocop, and if we said no to Robocop, that wouldn't have panned out well for us. Everyone else, eh, they got lucky."

All I'm saying is, I'm not killing Robocop.

Well, it's been in denial for a while, but lets be honest. My Xanga is dead. It's not you, it's me.... well, it's a little bit you... it always is in this sort of relationship. It has mostly to do with me being insanely busy with school, but a little bit of me not exactly liking the direction the xanga community is headed. The drama used to be funny in small doses, but that's all Xanga is now. Anyway, I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing, and I'm certainly not disappearing from the internets, you can find me on facebook and deviantart, both usernames are the same as they are here.

This is my Model Sheet for my character Charlie Brasseaux that I'm modelling for my Advanced Modelling class. I'm also modelling the plane.

This is a sketch I did of Lillian Rose while riding down to St. Louis on a train. I don't think it turned out too bad considering how bumpy the ride was.
